  • God is God of fire.
  • His presence is in the fire.

[INTRODUCTION]
  • God of Revival is God of FIRE!
  • Moses said, “devouring fire” / “fuego devorador”. 
Hb. “devour” literally means “to eat”. In context it signifies a consuming, destructive, force. 
Hb. “devorar” significa literalmente “comer”. En contexto significa una fuerza destructiva y consumidora.
  • Lets look at the context of Deuteronomy 4 so that we can better Respect our God of devouring fire.”​
[CONTEXT]
  • In Deuteronomy 4, Moses is letting the people know that there’s only one true God — the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 
  • And that He is a jealous God — as such, He demands obedience and forbids idolatry. 
  • And throughout chapter 4, Moses supports the seriousness of his message by mentioning the word “FIRE” at least 7 times. 
You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, while FLAMES from the mountain shot into the sky.   Deuteronomy‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬ ‭

Has any nation ever heard the voice of God speaking from FIRE—as you did—and survived?    Deuteronomy‬ ‭4‬:‭33‬ ‭

  • In Deuteronomy chapter 4, when referring to "fire," the context almost always indicates a "devouring" or "consuming" fire. 
  • This signifies God's power, wrath, and holiness. 
  • God is getting His His powerful point across.

  • Fire is a metaphor to convey God’s ability. 
  • God can destroy, including what He creates. 
  • He made heaven and earth, but one day.

  • God gets jealous — don’t know that kind of jelly.
  • God does not tolerate any other place but 1st — He considers it a rejection. 
I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject Me.   Deuteronomy‬ ‭5‬:‭9

  • God First is accepting that He alone is God.

  • God looks out for us - despite us. 
  • God Who is powerful & jealous, also cares for us. 
  • He demonstrates power greater than man’s fires.
  • He speaks to us when we need instruction.

I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love Me and obey My commands.   Deuteronomy‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬

  • God is looking out for us, to deliver us, when we need Him.

  • The song says that we need God’s fire. 
  • And surely we do — all that comes with it. 
  • It burns, consumes, heals, and sets us free. 
  • We need that fire — God’s Fire.

One day Moses led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God.   Exodus 3:1

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a BLAZING FIRE from the middle of a bush.   Exodus 3:2a

Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in FLAMES, it didn’t burn up.   Exodus 3:2b

  • The story of Moses is one of the best known. 
    • Raised as a prince of Egypt. 
    • Settled into the life of a shepherd. 
    • Took task of leading his people out of Egypt. 
  • It’s here at the “burning bush” where God speaks to Moses to go & lead the Hebrews out of Egypt. 
  • Let’s look at some fiery points frm that encounter.

YOU HAVE TO WANT THE FIRE

  • Moses went far to arrive at the mountain of God. 
  • God sees that & creates an amazing opportunity. 
  • Moses said, “I must go see it.”
  • We have to want to get closer to God / His fire.

  • God is not hiding:  He’s everywhere to be found - especially in you. 
  • If you want the Fire, God is ready to meet you. 

GOD HAS A SAFE MEETING PLACE FOR YOU

  • How many remember the school fire drills?
  • Train us to go to safe meeting place/count heads. 
  • We do that here at church every service.
  • God has a safe place to meet with you. 
  • For Moses it was Mt Horeb / Sinai / of God - same safe place - nobody bothered them there. 
  • Moses met God at His place at least 9 times - most known Burning Bush & Ten Commandments. 
  • One day we’re going to meet at Father’s house. 
When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.   John‬ ‭14‬:‭3‬

  • In the mean time, where’s your safe meeting place with God?
  • With Me it’s on the road. 
  • Set a safe place to meet with God. 

EVERY FIRE ENCOUNTER HAS PURPOSE

  • God continued to use Fire w/ Moses—w/ purpose. 
    • Burning Bush - instructions to lead Hebrews. 
    • Hail & Fire - to persuade pharaoh to release. 
    • Pillar of Fire - protection and guidance. 
    • Fire from Heaven - to consume sacrifice. 
  • Every time we have a fire encounter with God, it’s going to have purpose.
  • When John encounters Jesus, he writes…
When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw someone like the Son of Man…And his eyes were like FLAMES OF FIRE.   Revelation‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬-‭14‬ ‭

  • Every time you have an encounter with God‘s fire, God is going to:  Speak to you, Cover you with His power; and Reveal His purpose for your life.

  • The Fire of God is in you - keep it burning. 
  • God is IN the fire that burns within you. 
  • Every time you seek Him, He will meet you. 
  • And He will meet you with amazing purpose. 
  • The Fire is in you — there’s more on this altar. 
  • Do like Moses, and come to the Fire.

  • Abuse and Mistreatment – He intervened on his own strength.

  • When he encounters God at the “burning bush” he is just a shepherd.

  • Tending the flock: “The Hebrew suggests that this was his habitual occupation.”
  • The flock wasn’t even his.

When God has come into your life, His fire/presence/power/anointing is going to be there.
I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Matthew 3:11

As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between the two men, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven.   ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬ ‭

[INTRODUCTION]
  • What a miraculous story — so much more to it. 
  • Prophet Elijah is in his last days of life & ministry. 
  • His servant Elisha knows it as well. 
  • Elisha wants to continue the legacy of his master Elijah — like every good disciple does.
  • This miraculous story gives us 3 points to ponder:  God is God of Miracles; God’s Presence abides in us; God today is God greater tomorrow. 
  • The chariot of fire story is a miraculous story that continues to speak to us today. 
[FIERY POINTS]
GOD IS GOD OF MIRACLES

  • Elijah knows God as God of miracles.
  • God that sent down fire, rain, & now send an Uber - made of fire.
  • You know what?  God still does miracles. 
“I am the Lord, and I do not change.”    Malachi‬ ‭3‬:‭6‬ ‭

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.   Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭8‬ ‭

  • This emphasizes the unchanging nature of God. 
  • The world changes, God remains constant. 
  • Heaven & earth will pass away-His Word remains. 
  • BTW, what’s impossible to us is possible to God.
Jesus said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭26‬

  • We have experienced God‘s miracles – salvation.
  • We know what Elijah knew. 
  • God is God of miracles. 

GOD’S PRESENCE ABIDES IN US

  • We are spirit, soul, and body. 
  • God’s presence lives in our spirit. 
  • Elisha wanted double of God’s presence that abided in his Elijah’s spirit. 
  • Elijah says, “you’re asking for a difficult thing“.
  • “Spirit” refers to presence/anointing/power.
Jesus said, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.”    Acts 1‬:‭8‬ ‭ 
Jesus dijo, “recibirán poder cuando el Espíritu Santo descienda sobre ustedes”.   Hechos‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬
  • Power refers to burning anointing (unción ardiente) from God - to do supernatural things. 
  • The disciple Elisha wanted double of the ability that was in his master Elijah. 
  • So now, Elijah, in a sense, has to prepare Elisha - if you can withstand the fiery Uber that’s going to pick me up, for sure you’re ready for my spirit. 
  • Elisha sees his master taken away in a chariot of fire & puts on his masters cloak that descended. 
  • Books of Kings record 14 miracles performed by Elijah & 28 by Elisha - double. 
  • God has more of his presence for us today. 

WHAT GOD DOES TODAY IS FOR A GREATER TOMORROW

  • What God does today, is for a greater tomorrow. 
Joshua told the people, “Purify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do great wonders among you.”    Joshua‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬

  • Elisha did greater than Elijah. 
  • But not only that, what Elisha saw prepared him to see a greater demonstration from God. 
  • 2 Kings chapter 5, Elisha is now the master, and he has a servant – like he used to be. 
  • Elisha has experienced greater — the student has become  the teacher
  • In a later instance, Elisha & servant were surrounded by troops, horses, and chariots. 
Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha.    2 Kings‬ ‭6‬:‭15‬ 
Oh señor! ¿Qué vamos a hacer ahora? —gritó el joven a Eliseo.   2 Reyes 6:15
Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!”    2 Kings‬ ‭6‬:‭16

  • Elisha prayed for God to open his eyes. 
“O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.   2 Kings‬ ‭6‬:‭17‬ ‭

  • The servant lifted his eyes, like Elisha had done before. 
  • The hillside was filled with chariots of fire - God's army protecting them - a greater demonstration. 
  •  What does Chariot of Fire story tell you today? [IMPETUS]
  • What God does for you today prepares you for greater things He will do tomorrow. 
  • The fire of God in you is His presence, power, and anointing that burns in your spirit. 
  • It is miraculous - it is from God. 
[CHALLENGE]
  • You be the Chariot of Fire. 
  • You be that servant of God that transports others to greater things in God. 
  • His fire is already in you Chariot of Fire. 
  • Look up and rise to the challenge. 
  • Be that Chariot of Fire for the glory of God.

GOD IS IN THE MIDST OF THE FIRE

  • When the fires of life come at you, and try to destroy you, we sometimes think things are impossible. 
  • Some fires that people go through that are heavy and not for you, be careful cause you’ll get burned by a fire you weren’t prepared for.
  • Gods fire comes and shows us His glory, His mercy and His grace. 
  • It’s not about us, it’s about Him. 
  • The fires of life are to teach us, help us grow and mature.

THE FIRE OF THE COMMUNION

[FIERY POINTS]
  • Not only is Jehovah God, God of fire, He IS fire.
GOD IS HOLY FIRE 
DIOS ES FUEGO SANTO
  • God is holy fire, devouring, all consuming fire. 
  • It’s so important to appreciate how much fire is related to who God is. 
  • We’ve heard so much about how Jesus walked in the midst of fire - along with the Hebrew children. 
  • What we must appreciate is that Jesus was merely in His element. 
  • Before His throne there’s: an altar with fire; a river of fire; & Seraphim—the burning ones (ardientes). 
Isaiah / Isaias 6:2-4
  • John describes Jesus as having eyes of fire. 
Revelation / Apocalipsis 1:14; 19:12
  • God is all bout holy fire - this is the fire He offers us.
  • And again, His fire is holy, His fire devours, it’s all consuming. 

HOW DOES GOD’S HOLY FIRE RELATE TO THE HOLY COMMUNION?

  • For that we need to go back 3,200 yrs. to Moses & burning bush. 
  • You might recall that Moses is attracted to the burning bush. 
  • As he draws near, God begins to speak to him. 
Exodus / Exodo 25:22
  • Just like God begins to speak to Moses, He speaks to us when we draw nearer to the holy fire of His holy altar.
  • First thing God makes clear is to tell Moses that he’s standing on Holy Ground. 
Exodus / Exodo 3:5
  • Because God’s holy fire was there, the ground is holy. 
  • This sanctuary is holy because of holy fire from this His holy altar. 
  • And the closer we get to the altar, this is “holy of holies” ground. 
  • So Moses is told to remove his sandals. 
  • It is there at the burning bush, that God instructs Moses to return to Egypt. 
  • Moses returns to Egypt. 
  • Because Pharaoh didn’t obey, God sends 10 judgments - 10th, death of the first born. 
  • God says as long as the blood of the lamb stains around the doors, He would PASS OVER that home and not bring death to the first born. 
Hebrews / Hebrews 11:28
  • That’s why your home is protected, cuz your heart is stained w/ blood of the lamb. 
  • When God passed over those homes stained with blood, the Passover was born. 
  • Since then, the Hebrew people, now Jewish people, celebrate passover (pay’ saak / pe saj’). 
  • God told them to remember it every year. 

JESUS CELEBRATED THE PASSOVER 
JESÚS CELEBRÓ LA PASCUA
  • Jesus celebrated Passover 2,000 years ago - every year of His life. 
  • It’s in His final week, here on earth, that He arrives to Jerusalem - to celebrate the passover. 
  • While seated at the Passover table, having had the Passover meal, Jesus takes some bread. 
  • He takes the redemption cup, final cup of Seder (Séder). 
  • Jesus uses the Passover bread and wine as a symbol of His body and blood. 
  • So the instructions now to the believers is as often as we eat this bread, and drink this cup, we announce the Lord’s death til He returns. 
  • We have taken Communion — which Jesus instituted when he celebrated Passover.

  • So, What is Communion for us?
COMMUNION IS A REMEMBRANCE OF THE SACRIFICE OF JESUS ON THE CROSS

  • As we leave today, we must leave with this knowledge and appreciation. 
  • Communion is the Believers remembering what Jesus did for us. 
  • His death & resurrection is for our redemption — the price for our salvation and eternal life with Him. 
[APPLICATION]
  • And it all began with one fire encounter. 
  • W/ God’s holy, devouring, & consuming fire. 
  • When we take communion, it’s a very unique experience, unlike anything else that we do in our services to God. 
  • It takes us back 3,200 years, when Moses had that first fire experience with God. 
  • An encounter that gave us Passover and now Communion. 
  • A holy fire encounter that you and I can have every day of our Christian life. 
  • Praise God for communion & the fire that is rekindled in us every time we celebrate it.

[INTRODUCTION]
  • The context shows that the Church in Corinth was a group of early Christians who were split into different groups and often disagreed. 
  • They also struggled to grow spiritually and work together as a community.
  • Paul speaks first to the leaders of the Church then to the believers in general.

[FIRE POINTS]
According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:10

  • Jesus came to set the world on fire. 
  • Few days before our Palm Sunday, He knew that a terrible baptism of suffering was awaiting Him. 
  • He wished that the world was already burning.
  • He knew that His most painful week on earth was coming. 
  • And it did after His triumphant entrance into city. 
  • Palm Sunday is the beginning of a week of events that have set the world on fire. 
  • Our obligation is to keep the fire burning — keep the world on fire.

  • “Fire” has many applications.

  • Jesus application is that His work, during holy week, was going to be such an excellent work that it was going to set the world on fire.
Someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with FIRE. Matthew‬ ‭3‬:‭11‬ ‭

  • Holy Fire we must apply to our lives every day.
