Galatians‬ ‭5:22-23‬ ‭- “...the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”‭‭

  • Faith is more than what we believe in.

HOPE - God is in Control / ESPERANZA - Dios está en Control
  • Hope does not disappointment. Why?  We know how much God loves us - Romans‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭
  • Control - only God is capable of controlling. 
  • Anointing - divine control. ‬ ‭
"The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed ...” - Luke‬ ‭4:18‬

LOVE - Affection, Passion, Character / AMOR - Afecto, Pasión, Carácter 
  • Character matters - it defines a person. 
  • Qualities of an individual - it identifies 
  • God’s character - God is love - 1 John 4:7
  • Love one for another proves we follow Jesus Christ  - John‬ ‭13:35‬ ‭
  • When we get to heaven, “faith” will not be necessary — we will see and know Him. 
  • When we get to heaven, “hope” will be fulfilled — we have arrived, we made it. 
  • When we get to heaven, “love” will be with us forever. It is eternal. God is eternal. 
  • The greatest is “love”. 
Conclusion:

  • Joy is part of our faith. 
  • Faith is having the character of Christ. 
  • Joy is cheerfulness, calm delight, and gladness. 
  • God wants us to always experience the joy of being like Christ. 
  • That’s our faith. That’s joy!

GOD IS JOY / DIOS ES GOZO
  • Fruit of the Spirit is Joy - Holy Spirit is God. 
  • God’s Word - Nehemiah said, “The joy of the Lord” - 8:10
  • Faith - We love God though we don’t see Him; We trust God though we don’t see Him; That’s Faith! - We rejoice with joy unspeakable - 1 Peter / Pedro 1:8
  • “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” - Zephaniah‬ ‭3:17‬

JOY DEFINED / GOZO DEFINIDO
  • Often JOY is synonymous with happiness. (felicidad)
  • JOY is beyond happiness. (felicidad)
  • JOY is cheerfulness (jovial), calm delight, and gladness (alegría). 
  • Happiness (felicidad) in an emotion based on circumstances. 
  • Joy is having a strong state of mind independent of circumstances. 

JOY IS A CHOICE / EL GOZO ES UN ESCOGER
  • Benavides are known for being joyful. 
  • The Christmas tree pick-up. 
  • Philippians / Filipenses 1:21-25
  • What do you choose?  Yes!  It’s your choice. 
  • Do you choose a strong state of mind or an emotion based on what’s going on around you?
  • I recommend joy. It comes from God. And He gives it to you.

  • Peace belongs to God. 
  • As with love and joy, peace comes from God. 
  • You cannot give what is not yours. 
  • Jesus said, “my peace I give to you.”
  • He has gifted us His peace!
  • Does peace come from God?
  • Let’s look at the evidence. 

LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE / VEA LA EVIDENCIA 
  • Fruit of the Spirit produces Peace - Holy Spirit is God.
  • Three bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” I John‬ ‭/ Juan 5:7‬ 
  • Jerusalem - City of Peace
"On the holy mountain stands the city founded by the Lord. He loves the city of Jerusalem more than any other city in Israel. O city of God, what glorious things are said of you!” - Psalms‬ ‭87:1-3‬ ‭

  • Jesus is Peace
    • Called Prince of Peace.” - Isaiah ‬/ Isaías ‭9:6‬ ‭- Authority!
    • Storm - “Peace, be still!” Mark ‬‭/ Marcos 4:39‬ 
    • Greeting - “Peace be with you” - Luke‬ ‭24:36‬
"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”- John‬ ‭16:33‬ ‭

  • ‭To have God is to have peace. 
  • When we talk about peace, what are we talking about?

PEACE IS PROSPERITY / PAZ ES PROSPERIDAD
  • To prosper is to succeed, to increase.(aumentar)
  • Opposite of peace “trouble(angustia), afraid(miedo), trials, sorrows.”
  • “Gr”:  prosperity in quietness, rest. - “The tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ.”
  • “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.

  • Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

  • THEN you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

  • Does the world need peace today? 
  • Everybody wants peace, feel security?
  • The influence of the antichrist is Offering peace. 

EVERYBODY WANTS PEACE / TODOS QUIEREN PAZ
  • The world, nation, cities wants peace.
  • Those who keep order in our society - “Peace Officers.”
  • Nations reach “Peace Agreements”
  • 20 MAJOR World Organizations That Strive To Establish World Peace:  “Pathways to Peace”; “Flame of Peace”; “Global Peace Foundation”; “World Peace Prayer Society”. 
  • Everybody wants peace!
  • Everybody wants to prosper, succeed, and rest.
  • True lasting peace, that rises above everything, only comes from the God of peace.
  • You need to spend time with God, in His presence. 
  • “Refresh yourself in the peace of [God’s] presence.” Sarah Young
  • When you spend time with God not only do you experience divine peace, but also His joy, love, and all that Holy Spirit has to offer. 
  • Whether you are faith walking, long drive, prayer closet, meditating in the Word, during the service, or just any quiet time with God.
  • Time with God is divine — it is Peaceful. 
  • God has given you a personal gift — peace of mind and heart.
"In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” - Psalms‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭
"En paz me acostaré y dormiré, porque solo tú, oh Señor, me mantendrás a salvo.” - Salmos‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭

Conclusion:
GOD GIVES ME PEACE, SO I CAN LIVE IN PEACE

Psalm / Salmos 37:7
“Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.”
“Quédate quieto en la presencia del Señor, y espera con paciencia a que él actúe.”
  • Our patience is proven every day.
  • Our ability to endure, encourage, not avenge ourselves, is always being tested. 
  • From the simplest to the most trying moment. 
  • From waiting for the light to turn green to not raising our fists in anger. 
  • God gives us patience for our every day life. 

PATIENCE WORKS BETTER WITH OTHERS
LA PACIENCIA FUNCIONA MEJOR CON OTROS
  • Like in a report card. 
  • Patience gets a better grade when it works with others. 
    • Ephesians / Efesios 4:2 - To be patient with others we need to be humble and gentle. 
    • Hebrews / Hebreos 10:36 - To be patient with life we need endurance. 
    • 1 Corinthians / Corintios 13:4 - To be patient in a relationship we need love and kindness - no room for jealousy or pride. 
  • Patience works better when other virtues are included.

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE
LA PACIENCIA ES UNA VIRTUD
  • Patience is the ability to bear suffering. 
  • Patience is an admirable quality. 
  • Patience is a gift or a learned quality. 
  • Efren’s football team. 
  • Patient Job?  He lost material goods & children. 
    • Job 1:20:  He worships God; He is content; he does not sin; he does not blame God. 
  • Patient Job?  He lost health; wife turns vengeful. 
    • Job 2:10:  He helps his wife with the loss; He guards his words. 
  • “Rejoice...Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” - Romans‬ ‭12:12‬ ‭
  • Patience is a virtue that increases quality of life. 

PATIENT STEPS TO A QUALITY LIFE
PASOS PACIENTES A UNA VIDA DE CUALIDAD
  • Psalm 37 is a response to the problem of evil. 
  • The Psalm answers that the situation is only temporary - God is in control. 
  • David tells us to take steps towards patience:
    • Trust God with everything. 
    • Live a good life.
    • Spend time with God.
    • Don’t lose your cool. 

Conclusion:

Colossians / Colosenses 3:12
“Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
“Dado que Dios los eligió para que sean su pueblo santo y amado por él, ustedes tienen que vestirse de tierna compasión, bondad, humildad, gentileza y paciencia.”
  • Our world needs more kindness. 
  • Considerate, gentle (suave), helpful (útil), humane people that look out for others. 
  • And not just look out for others but actually do something about it.
  • That is what our world needs. 
  • And for this, God has given us KINDNESS / GENTILEZA. 

KINDNESS IS SEEN IN WORKS
GENTILEZA SE VE EN LAS OBRAS
  • It is more than “words” it is “actions”.
  • Those flowers you sent to a Covid patient. 
  • That money you give to a person who lost their job because of the pandemic. 
  • That ride you gave to your neighbor who lost their car. 
  • Staying up late on the phone giving a word of encouragement to someone who can’t handle the world’s present situation. 
  • And so many more. That’s Kindness. 
  • Yeah even giving a thirsty dog water to drink, like in the movie “Evan Almighty” - ARK - Act of Random Kindness. 
"The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness.” - Psalms‬ ‭145:17‬ ‭
"El Señor es justo en todo lo que hace; está lleno de gentileza.” - Salmos‬ ‭145:17‬ ‭
  • Kindness is what we Do!  More than what we say. 

THE KINDNESS OF JESUS / LA GENTILEZA DE JESÚS

  • “The Biblical stories of Jesus overflow with acts of kindness.”
  • Jesus touched the untouchable - Matthew / Mateo 8:1-4- Spoke to & healed the leper. 
  • Jesus spent time with the rejected - Luke / Lucas 19:6 - Spoke to & entered the house of a tax collector / sinner.
  • Jesus fed the hungry - Matthew / Mateo 14:13 - Compassion & kindness work well together. 
  • Kindness goes beyond words into acts. 

ADD TO YOUR KINDNESS / AÑADE A TU GENTILEZA
  • Shopping list. (Loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter and come out with a cart full of groceries. 
  • What happened?  In the shopping process, we realize we needed more things. 
  • God is Kind - part of what makes His character. 
  • Character is made up of different elements. 
  • Gives Love so that we can do acts of kindness.
  • Gives Joy so that we will not tire of doing acts of kindness. 
  • Gives Peace because often times acts of kindness must be done during times of personal struggles.
  • Gives Patience because those acts of kindness are sometimes directed towards those we deem (consideramos) unworthy.
  • All the Fruit of the Spirit works together. 
  • The fullness of the character of Christ works together in kindness. 
  • Colossians / Colosenses 3:12 - God’s people must clothe (vestirse) themselves with tenderhearted (tierna compasión), mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
  • The more you add to your kindness, the more effective your acts will be.
Conclusion:

A rich man came up to Jesus & asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Hombre rico se acercó a Jesús y le preguntó, “Maestro bueno, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la vida eterna?” 
  • God is good - faith-filled response “all the time“. 
  • Something we need to know is that God is Good. 
  • Many Scriptures support the Goodness of God. 
  • We know God is:  pure love; powerful joy, perfect peace, ever patient, & wonderfully kind. 
  • In a world full of so much that is contrary to Goodness, it’s Good to know that God is Good.

GOD IS GOOD / DIOS ES BUENO
  • “We don’t worship God because life is Good. We worship God because HE is Good.“

  • We are very capable of being good. 
  • Our design is in God’s image and likeness.

“Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.”

  • Since God is Good, you and I can be Good.

[Jesus said] “...if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”

FAITHFULNESS IS SHOWN / LA FIDELIDAD ES MOSTRADA
  • Like Kindness & Goodness, FAITHFULNESS is about what is done:
    • Picking up the kids from school.
    • Living up to those wedding vows.
    • Years of ministry service to God. 
    • COMMENT an example of Faithfulness. 
    • Being consistent at work until the very end.
    • Example of Eugene - mechanic for county of riverside - let go due to budget constraints - FB post “my last black and white I service” - “he thanked me for staying until the end. He said many do not show up to work after being notified about there termination. He thinks highly of me and wished he could've of kept me.”

GOD SHOWS HIS FAITHFULNESS / DIOS MUESTRA SU FIDELIDAD
  • 2 Timothy / Timoteo 2:13
“If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.”
“Si somos infieles, él permanece fiel, pues él no puede negar quién es.”
    • Even when we are not faithful, He is. 
    • He cannot act any other way but faithful. 
  • PASTOR LIZ SILVA - powerful testimony - testimony to leadership she said, “God is faithful ️ God is Good!! ️”

FAITHFULNESS IS A PROMISE / LA FIDELIDAD ES UNA PROMESA
  • Psalms / Salmos 100:5
“For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.”

  • Humility works in our thinking - that’s where it begins.
  • And those Humble thoughts then influence our emotions - how we feel about it.
  • Which then leads to our actions - to do the right thing, the right way. 
  • True Humility produces positive results. 
Proverbs / Proverbios 22:4
“True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.”

  • We must think with Humility. 
  • The best example of Humility is Jesus Christ. 
  • It IS Part of His Character!
  • The apostle Paul describes it perfectly.

4 PRINCIPLES ON HUMILITY / 4 PRINCIPIOS SOBRE LA HUMILDAD
Philippians / Filipenses 2:1-11
  • Have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
          Ten la misma actitud que tuvo Cristo Jesús. 
  • Think of others as better than yourself. 
          Considera a los demás como mejor que tú. 
  • Take the position of a servant. 
          Adopta la posición de siervo. 
  • Obedience to God until death.
          Obediencia a Dios hasta la muerte. 

  • Humility takes a lot of willpower (fuerza de voluntad) - that’s why it works in our thinking. 
  • It takes a lot of mental strength to be humble.
  • And, as Christians, “Humility” is part of who we are. 
  • I exhort you to make Humility part of who YOU are. 
  • It will bless you - and YOU will be a blessing to others.

Is there any comfort from His Love? FRUIT OF SPIRIT
¿Existe algún consuelo en su Amor?
Is there any fellowship together in the Spirit? FELLOWSHIP

Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 
¿Tienen ustedes un corazón tierno y compasivo? 
Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.”

  • How many times have we heard it / said it / thought it, “Control Yourself”. 
  • What is self-control?
    • One who LEARNS how to dominate their desires / thoughts. 
    • One who GOVERNS his feelings about things his passionate about. 
    • One who QUENCHES inappropriate sensual appetites. 
  • Desires, thoughts, feelings, passion, and, yes, sensual desires, are God given. 
  • Control them, and you control yourself.

  • “Red Flags” are like indicators. 
  • An “Indicator Light” (Luz del Indicador) in a car says it needs service — go to a car technician or mechanic. 
  • “Hunger Pains” indicate that our glucose and sugar levels or too low – need to eat.
  • Here are some “Red Flags” indicating that we are losing control:

THE HUMILITY OF JESUS

  • Philippians / Filipenses 2:6
“Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to....”
“Aunque era Dios, no consideró que el ser igual a Dios fuera algo a lo cual aferrarse.”
  • He can raise the dead like he can also raise a child up in the air.
  • He can walk on water or get in a boat to get to the other side. 
  • He can transform to talk to Moses & Elijah or have a fish fry with his disciples.

“Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for 12 legions of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly?”

HUMILITY - THE BEST FRIEND OF SELF-CONTROL

  • We all need a best friend — so does Self-control. 
  • Why do we lose control?  LACK OF HUMILITY. 
    • Humility recognizes weaknesses.
    • Humility doesn’t justify by other’s weaknesses. 
    • Humility says I need help - I need God. 
  • 1 Peter / Pedro 5:6
“Humble yourself under the mighty power of God, and at the right time He will lift you up in honor.”
“Humíllate ante el gran poder de Dios y, a su debido tiempo, él te levantará con honor.”

FEAR - IT’S A REAL ENEMY OF SELF-CONTROL
TEMOR - ES UN VERDADERO ENEMIGO DEL CONTROL PROPIO
  • Fear is a real enemy - it’s a demonic spirit. 
  • Fear is one of the greatest forces the devil uses.
  • Fear does not come from God - “Fear of the Lord” is Respect / Reverence. 
  • Fear from the enemy is timidity & cowardice - holds you back - fights against your success. 
    • Church leadership - 1 Timothy / Timoteo 3:11 - must exercise self-control & faithfulness. 
    • Relationships - Proverbs / Proverbios 5:23 - relationships die for lack of self-control. 
    • End times - 2 Timothy / Timoteo 3:3 - evil people have no self-control. 
  • Fear is so real it fights your physical, emotions, & state of mind. 
  • How do you defeat fear?  Defeat fear with Good Character. 
  • 2 Timothy / Timoteo 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 
“Pues Dios no nos ha dado un espíritu de temor y timidez sino de poder, amor y autodisciplina.”

SELF-CONTROL IN THE  KINGDOM

  • 2 Timothy / Timoteo 1:8
“Never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord.”
“Así que nunca te avergüences de contarles a otros acerca de nuestro Señor.”
  • Remember, all Believers are Divinely ordered, to preach the good news of Jesus Christ. 
  • Today we begin the 3rd Part of “Season of Faith”:  “The Gospel of the Kingdom”
  • Matthew / Mateo 4:23
“Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee...preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom...”

  • If somebody has self-control it’s Jesus. 
  • And if he is Lord of your life, His character is inside of you. 
  • So don’t Fear, Be Fumble, Look out for those “Red Flags”, and you will have Self-Control.
