  • It helps you to be more than what you are now.
  • It takes you beyond where you are now.
  • Every time you gather, you have an opportunity to encourage and be encouraged.
  • Every time you gather, you have an opportunity to encounter God — especially at the altar.

  • It is important to gather together, so we can encourage one another, pray for each other, and allow God to work in our lives.
“For where two or three are gathered in my name [meeting together as my followers], I am there among them.” - Matthew 18:20

  • Coming together as a church community not only pours blessings upon those that are there, but the gathering is also a natural witness of God‘s goodness to the world. 
  • It gives us a sense of belonging and develops important relationships with the Body of Christ.
“Not forsaking our meeting together as believers for worship and instruction as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more faithfully, as you see the day of Christ return approaching.” - Hebrews 10:25

When we gather at the altar, it’s because…
GOD CALLS THE FAMILIES

  • Gentlemen, God calls us first:  His sons; Single men; Husbands; Fathers; Grandfather; Men. 
  • God calls us because we are the heads of our tribe — family has our name — we give identity. 
  • We see this from the beginning:  Garden of Eden; God calls for the man, the husband, His son. 
Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” - Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬

  • Gentlemen, we know the statistics. 
Both parents attend:  72% children attend

  • Family is designed to follow the head of family. 
  • God calls families to the altar. 
  • If you respond, your family will respond as well.

When we gather at the altar…
THE WORD OF GOD IS THERE

  • God told them to gather w/ark of covenant there. 
  • Ark of the covenant represents many things:  Presence; Protection; Guidance; & Word. 
  • God is in covenant with us - everything in The Word is God’s promise to us.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. - Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭35‬ ‭

  • His Word tells us to gather at the altar. 
  • His Word convicts us to go to the altar. 
  • His Word speaks to us at & continues at the altar. 
  • We need God’s Word - it’s the only truth today.
  • God calls families to gather - bring Ark/Word. 

When we gather at the altar…
WE WORSHIP GOD 
ADORAMOS A DIOS
  • Families gathered at Tent of Meeting - church. 
  • The Ark is there, and all that it represents.
  • They offered so many sacrifices no one could keep count - nothing new for king Solomon. 
Solomon went up to the bronze altar in the Lord’s presence and sacrificed 1,000 burnt offerings on it - 2 Chronicles‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬ ‭

  • We offer our sacrifices of praise – so many that we cannot count them. 
Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God - Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭15‬ ‭

  • In THIS our meeting tent, in God’s presence, before the altar today, we gather to worship God.

They worshipped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and (sincere hearts) generosity. Acts 2:42

  • Family reunions can be very special, and spending time with relatives can be great.
  • When was your last Family reunion?
  • Spending more time together as God’s Family strengthens the church.
  • It is good for Christians to gather throughout the week, outside of worship times.

  • TODAY we gather outside the church to:
    • Testify @ outdoor events, neighborhood, parks, streets.
    • Study @ home, coffee house, and Bible clubs.
    • Pray @ the flagpole, and football field.
    • Baptize @ the pool, ocean, river, church, water park.
    • Worship @ concerts.
    • Fellowship @ restaurants, parties, women, men, says, yard sales.
    • Zoom, Online Church, Live Service- Fb-Ytb, Text, Email, Website (Pastors Desk) Messenger
 
BENEFITS OF GATHERING OUTSIDE THE CHURCH

  • The Fruit of the Spirit grows as we gather. 
…encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1Thesalonians 5:11

  • We need to come together as a family in Christ.

​GATHERING ON PALM SUNDAY
REUNION EL DOMINGO DE PALMAS

The next day a great multitude that had come to the Passover Feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!” - John‬ ‭12‬:‭12-13‬ ‭
Al día siguiente, cuando oyó que Jesús venía a Jerusalén, la gran multitud que había venido a la fiesta de la pascua tomó ramas de palmera y salió a recibirlo, y lo aclamaba a gritos: “¡Hosanna! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor, el Rey de Israel!”. - Juan‬ ‭12‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ 

Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. - John 12:17

[INTRODUCTION]
  • The Gathering outside Jerusalem had great purpose. 
  • With palm tree branches in hand, the people receive Jesus into the city.
  • But also gathered there were the “party poopers“ - those Pharisees. 
  • The ones who just could not see the greater purpose and chose to murmur. 
  • So, in this Gathering, which we Christians now call Palm Sunday, certain things speak to us:
    • Everybody loves a gathering with purpose. 
    • There’s always “party poopers” amongst us. 
    • We must understand people’s hearts. 
  • There’s Purpose to our Palm Sunday Gathering. 
A GATHERING WITH PURPOSE 
UNA REUNION CON PROPÓSITO 
  • Just like today, we’re here because we follow Jesus – the same with these people. 
  • They’re in celebration mode-Lazarus resurrected. 
  • Others heard about Rez - want to see Jesus. 
  • The gathering had purpose. 
“Not only is gathering together enjoyable, but it also promotes a sense of belonging” - (The Importance of Gathering Together)
“No sólo es agradable el reunirnos juntos, sino que también promueve un sentido de pertenencia” - (The Importance of Gathering Together)
  • Jesus entrance had an even greater purpose. 
Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt. - John‬ ‭12‬:‭15‬; Zechariah 9:9
No temas, hija de Sion. ¡He aquí tu Rey viene, sentado sobre una cría de asna! - Juan‬ ‭12‬:‭15‬; Zacarías 9:9
  • Jesus was fulfilling prophecy. 
  • People gathered for Passover, and to see Jesus - Jesus gathered for a greater purpose.
  • In following Jesus & in evry Gathering that honors Him, Jesus will always fulfill a greater purpose.
AM I A PARTY POOPER? 
¿SERE UN AGUAFIESTAS?
  • There’s always going to be “party poppers”. 
  • Those who just don’t get it and their attitudes reflect it. 
  • When my older siblings and I were young — I had to learn to adjust my attitude. 
  • I was concerned with showing up to Men’s Fellowship & birthday party with a pulled shoulder and sling.
  • Even in the Bible there’s “party poopers”.
  • Sometimes the majority are party poopers. 
So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites…Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night. ‭‭- Numbers‬ ‭13‬:‭32‬-‭14:1
Entonces divulgaron entre los israelitas el siguiente mal informe sobre la tierra…Entonces toda la comunidad empezó a llorar a gritos y así continuó toda la noche. - Números‬ ‭13‬:‭32‬-‭14:1
  • After service “party poopers”. 
Michal came out to meet David. She said in disgust, “How distinguished the king of Israel looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do!  David retorted to Michal, “I was dancing before the Lord… - 2 Samuel‬ ‭6‬:‭20-21
Mical salió al encuentro con David y le dijo indignada: —¡Qué distinguido se veía hoy el rey de Israel, exhibiéndose descaradamente delante de las sirvientas tal como lo haría cualquier persona vulgar!  David le replicó a Mical: —¡Estaba danzando delante del Señor… - 2 Samuel‬ ‭6‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭
  • Jesus was no “party pooper”. 
Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water”…When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine…. - John‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬-‭9‬
Jesús les dijo: —Llenen de agua las tinajas…y cuando el encargado del banquete probó el agua ya hecha vino… - Juan‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬-‭9‬
  • Those murmuring Pharisees were party poopers - to the point that they had Jesus crucified - talk about “thanks for killing the mood“.
  • Consider these Bible stories: 10 Spies; Michal; Jesus; the Pharisees…
  • Are you a “party pooper”?
  • Or are you the “life of the party?
  • There’s always more good in gatherings, especially those that honor God. 
LET’S GET BACK TO BEING GODLY
VOLVAMOS A SER JUSTOS
  • God wants us to be godly. 
  • This is how he wants us together 
  • How can I gather with the right spirit/attitude?
  • How can I understand and help others to be “life of the party“?
  • The Pharisees were offended how Jesus was received - branches of palm trees were reserved only to receive their king.
The godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. - Psalms‬ ‭92‬:‭12‬-‭13‬‭
Los justos florecerán como palmeras y se harán fuertes como los cedros del Líbano; trasplantados a la casa del Señor, florecen en los atrios de nuestro Dios. - Salmos‬ ‭92‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭
  • The Palm Trees represent our Praise – the Cedars represent the House of God where the Altar is. 
  • We must Know this Scripture by heart AND live it. 
  • It’ll keep us in the right spirit, and will help us to understand others and help them. 
  • We need to be like Jesus – we must all be godly.
[APPLICATION]
  • You are here, on Palm Sunday with purpose. 
  • You are here to celebrate who Jesus is. 
  • Jesus is your Savior King who’s entered triumphantly into your life. 
  • He is the reason why you can stand and flourish like a palm tree. 
  • Jesus is why you are here today living life and being the life of this gathering. 
CONCLUSION

INTRODUCTION
  • The Bible records at least 8 appearances of the resurrected Jesus - 3 of them group gatherings. 
  • In these gatherings He reveals more of Himself.

  • 2nd, He appeared to other women leaving tomb.
  • 3rd, He met up w/ two disciples road to Emmaus.
  • 4th, He appeared to 10 disciples who were hiding.

Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me. - John‬ ‭20‬:‭29‬ ‭

  • Gathering reveals more of God’s blessing. 

GOD ALWAYS HAS MORE BLESSING FOR US

  • 6th, He gathered with 7 disciples, including Peter.
​ Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?…Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you. - John‬ ‭21‬:‭15‬-‭17‬ ‭

  • Gathering reveals how much more God trusts us.

GOD ALWAYS WANTS TO DO MORE THROUGH US

  • 8th, He gathered with 500 followers at one time.
