Yahweh(Jehova) Nissi “The Lord is our Banner”
Yahweh (Jehová) Nissi “El Señor es nuestro Estandarte”
A Banner is a military symbol.
Una Bandera es un símbolo militar.
Its colors and insignias (las insignias) symbolize who you serve under and who you represent.
Exodus 17:15 (NLT/LBLA)
15Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means “the LORD is my banner”).
Earlier in Exodus 17 we find the Amalekites(Amalecitas) attacking the Israelites in a place called Rephidim.
Rephidim(Refidim) in Hebrew means “place of rest”.
Isn’t it like the enemy to attack you when you’re in your place of rest, your peace, your place of comfort.
Joshua and the Israelites fought against the Amalekites (Amalecitas) on the orders of Moses.
Standing at the edge of the hill watching, Moses with his staff and both arms in the air, the Israelites would fight and defeat the Amalekites (Amalecitas).
But meanwhile Moses staff and arms were down and Moses would get tired, the Israelites would begin to lose the battle. So Aaron and Hur helped Moses keep his arms up to win the battle and defeat the Amalekites (Amamlecitas)
In our battles and in our struggles(luchas), sometimes our only option is to look to God and lift our hands, give it to God and let God fight our battles and take away our struggles(luchas) and anxiety.
Moses and the Israelites were victorious because through obedience to God and Moses arms lifted up, God showed himself in the midst of the battle.
Yes we grow tired and anxious, we get worried and upset that God won’t show himself or stand in the gap for us, we are human.
Regardless of all that Gods banner is victorious and his standard is lifted up and he stands with us, all the way through the battle.
Exodus 17 marked the place where God intervened on behalf of his people and promised to ultimately destroy their enemy.
We need to stand victorious and raise up Gods standard, no matter how you’re feeling or what you’re thinking and lift up the banner(standard) of God.
Humanity tells us that everyone and everything will fail us.
The bible tells us in Psalms 116: 11
“All men are liars”/ “Todo hombre es mentiroso”.
God’s banner – his standard is true.
Psalms 20:6 – 8
6Now I know that the LORD rescues his anointed king.
He will answer him from his holy heaven
and rescue him by his great power.
7Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the LORD our God.
8Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.
6 Ahora sé que el SEÑOR salva a su ungido;
le responderá desde su santo cielo,
con la potencia salvadora de su diestra.
7 Algunos confían en carros, y otros en caballos;
8 Ellos se doblegaron y cayeron;
God knows our battles and setbacks(contratiempos), he knows when the enemy is going to come and try to destroy us.
As long as we stand firm under Gods banner and affirm his standards in our lives God will destroy our enemies.
Psalms 91:7 – 10
7Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.
8Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.
9If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter,
If you stand with God and if you stand for God, he will stand for you.
CONCLUSION

- Everybody wants peace!
- God knows we need His peace.
- Jehovah Shalom: God of Peace; In covenant with the believer.
- He IS our peace. And He know when we need it most.
- Isn’t that what we want - what we need?
WHO WAS GIDEON?
¿QUIEN ERA GEDEON?
- Chosen by Angel of the Lord: Christ Himself.
- Appeared to: Abraham, Jacob, Joshua, Gideon.
- Tribe of Manases: direct descendant of Joseph.
- A timid man — spirit of fear — no hero.
- Threshing wheat - hide it from the enemies.
- Despite Gideon’s limitations, Christ declared him a “mighty hero” / “Guerrero caliente”.
- God always sees beyond our self evaluations & fears.
- When Gideon realized that the Angel was the Lord, he built the altar & declares Jehovah shalom — He is my peace.
- This shows us that life, circumstances, disobediences, and so much more, can steal our peace.
- Who and where are you right now? God says, “I am your peace.
THE PEACE OF CHRIST ARRIVES AT THE PRECISE MOMENT

- The disciples find themselves in a whole gamut (gama) of emotions, concerns, and fear.
- It is precisely then, when the resurrected Prince of Peace appears to them.
- Story of sister Yolanda. (Yola)
- It’s the grape season — the days are hot.
- She loses important papers.
- She was nervous and needed to tell her soon arriving husband — this is before Jesus.
- Brother Juan got mad! Let’s find them!
- They all returned to the field under that scorching sun - Brenda & Jael young.
- Sis. Yolanda was praying, “Lord help us to find those important documents.
- The rows were long and there were venomous snakes.
- After much searching, sister Yolanda begins to feel that “shalom” peace - that everything was going to be all right.
- She begins to thank God.
- Right after that, brother Juan yells out, “Yola, I found them.”
- This teaches us that the peace of Christ comes at the precise moment
- When you cry out with all your heart, and humbleness, He will send you His peace.
- It is a kiss that neither I nor the world can gift to you.
- It is the on time peace that comes from God alone.
“Les dejo mi regalo: Paz en la mente y en el corazon. Y la paz que yo hos doy es un regalo que ni el mundo no puede dar. Asi que no se angustien ni tengan miedo.” - Juan 14:27

Restores / Restaura
- The idea of the rescue of a lost one. “Picture the lost sheep brought back.” (Backslider, Prodigal)
- In Hebrew the words can mean ‘brings me to repentance’ (or conversion).
- He restores it to its original purity, that was now grown dirty and black with sin.
Leads / Guía
- The sheep didn’t need to know where the green pastures or still waters were; all it needed to know was where the shepherd was. (Be in His presence)
- The leadership of the shepherd is not only to comfort and restore but also to guide into righteousness.
- They are then led in ‘the path of righteousness’, in the way of holy obedience.
- Obstructions are removed; they are Strengthened, to walk in the paths of God’s commandments.
“TODO SE TRATA DE SU NOMBRE”
El Rey Salomón escribió, “Más vale el buen nombre que las muchas riquezas.” (REPUTATION)
- Why? Perhaps because a reputation lives even beyond the grave.
For His Name’s Sake – More than 10 times the phrase Por amor de Su nombre appears in the Bible (NKJV).
- Not for any merit in men, but merely for the demonstration and glory of his mercy, justice, faithfulness, and goodness, and not for any merits in men.
- Because it isn’t about my performance! God is acting out of a commitment to his own name, and we can ask him to act based on that commitment to himself.
- Not for our sakes, but for his own; having undertaken to be the Shepherd, he will for his own glory's sake do all that a shepherd's care demands.
- I need this perspective: God is for me because of Jesus Christ.
God’s integrity, reputation, holiness, and even His glory is all closely linked to His name.
And often God acts to sanctify His name and prevent it from being disgraced. (dishonor)
