  • I had to make those words the focus - because that is so special - in so many ways.

THE FAMILY THAT GIVES THANKS

  • We’ve entered the month of Thanksgiving - a time to reflect on the things we can be thankful for! 
  • Sometimes, the busyness of life can stop us from slowing down and choosing gratitude. 
  • As families, we must remember and be grateful.

  • Let’s be families that give thanks.

Gratitude is a feeling of appreciation for something or somebody. 
Gratitud es un sentimiento de apreciación por algo o alguien.
  • Our apostle presented to us this past Sunday that gratitude is a powerful life changing principal. 
  • So powerful that it can transform our relationships and even our health.
  • It is not a surprise that the world of psychology also adopted this principal.
  • In fact, practicing gratitude can reduce stress and produces an immediate 10% increase in happiness. It's a key ingredient in relationships that glorify God.
“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God” - Psalms 50:23

  • This is God’s will for us; to give Him thanks.
  • This is the key scripture for our new series.

  • Therefore, Jesus Himself teaches us that to be thankful glorifies and is the direct connection to The Father. Jesus show us the power of gratitude with the “Ten Lepers Cleansed”.

  • This is a very special Scripture in so many ways. 
  • One of our greatest leaders is being transparent. 
  • Here he is demonstrating great leadership. 
  • Apostle Paul gives thanks to God for the Believers — “including the church leaders”.  
  • So it’s a special scripture for all of us. 
LEAD BY EXAMPLE

  • Recently I shared that with our leaders. 
  • We must lead by example in everything we do. 
  • There is an old saying that first appeared in 1654. 
“Preachers say, 'Do as I say, not as I do.’”

  • Yes!  This is some thing PREACHERS used to say! — spiritual leaders. 
  • This saying acknowledges that our actions are in direct opposition to our words. 
  • It is an acknowledgment of hypocrisy.
“And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.” - Titus‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬

  • Our leadership is a reflection of those who have lead us: Parents; Teachers; Spiritual Leaders; etc. 
  • We Reflect over those whom we influence — Where WE Lead. 
  • That’s where we need to be the example. 
  • In the Focus Scripture, Paul gives us several examples that we as leaders must follow.

  • David knew he’d be king but he didn’t try to dethrone Saul — he waited for his time. 
  • Walking out church doors you’ll find the biggest pulpit that exists. It’s called the world.

  • We need to be families that give thanks.
  • Like the examples mentioned, & Scripture read, we honor God through our thanksgiving. 
  • It’s good to reflect on the things that He’s done for us, and be thankful for it. 
  • Any other day we can be too busy to give thanks.

  • A consistent routine we can not take for granted.
  • It’s important, especially to younger generations.

  • Important to use words: Tradition; Family Get together; Holidays — they keep us bonded.

  • The Spirit of the Holiday includes rest: Together as family; slow down,enjoy each others company. 
  • The Spirit of the Holiday includes love:  Especially God’s love; Believers & Non, United in Fellowship, Thanksgiving, Love. 
“Worshiped together at the Temple & shared their meals with great joy & sincere hearts” - Acts 2‬:‭46‬‭

  • The Spirit of thanksgiving includes friends:
    • Original thanksgiving was families & friends. 
    • Pilgrims & Waam-puh-now-ag. 
    • 3-day harvest festival in October—based on the Feast of Sukkot (soo-kowt) Tabernacles. 
    • Pilgrims: Vegetables; Fish; Wild Turkey. 
    • Waampuhnowag brought house gifts—Deer. 
    • The Christian Pilgrims wanted to thank God and their new friends for helping them.
    • Nothing better than friends who are family! 
  • Friends & Family, Believer & Non, together in love - resting in the spirit of it all.

  • Ps 107:1 encourages us to give thanks to the Lord.  
  • Gives reasons of what only God can do for us:
  • Wherever we’re at in life, God is there to be what we need Him to be. ​
  • So let’s give thanks to the Lord now and after thanksgiving holidays.

PROTECTION — God takes care of you

  • In God’s tent there is no harm or disaster.

  • This is God loving you, always. 
  • He loves you like no one else can. 
  • He saves you, answers your prayers, provides for you, blesses you, and protects you - ALL the time. 
  • Not when He feels like it. Not when He’s up to it. 
  • God is good all the time.
  • So, now and always, during and after the Holidays, give thanks to the Lord for He is good.
