yoCAMINO DE SERCA CON EL SEÑOR
INTRODUCTION
- Our key scripture for this series is Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and you get into trouble
- So tonight we’re going to walk and hang out with Solomon; so we too can become wise
- Solomon’s life is a great example of the steps we can take; to take part in God’s wisdom
- Solomon’s wisdom was based on a authentic relationship with God
- It was built with worship and the fear of the LORD
- And in return was God’s unfailing faithfulness
An Authentic Relationship
Una Relación Auténtica
- Luke 12:21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
- God just wants relationship with us
- I know it’s not easy
- We get caught up with our daily lives. Going to school/work, having homework/house duties, taking care of kids.
- Then our only dose of God is an hour and a half on Sunday,
- and maybe if you’re lucky you can make it on Wednesday, so you get an extra 1 1/2
- We need to make the effort to find our quality time with God
- That can be during your commute, on lunch, in the shower
- My grandma would lock herself in the bathroom to get away from the kids to pray
- Let’s put this into perspective with Solomon
- In 1 Kings 3:4 Solomon offered 1,000 sacrifices. This was Solomons expression of worship to in his relationship with God
- So like… do we even have it hard?
- Solomon strengthened his relationship
A Heart Of Worship
Un Corazón de Adoración
- as a musician myself, I know how difficult it can be to write a song
- The music comes naturally, but writing the lyrics can be so hard
- MJ 147, BS 340, BJ 121, The Beatles 213, Taylor Swift 141
- Solomon wrote 1,005 songs!
- I think about how in tune he was with God.
- How connected they were for him to pump out song after song
God’s Unfailing Faithfulness
La Inquebrantable Fidelidad de Dios
- God is faithful
- 1 Kings 3:6
- One thing that impacted me was Solomon’s view of his father David. Solomon saw David’s heart for God and God’s faithfulness in his life
- Solomon wasn’t caught up in his fathers past wrong doings
- We all fall short of the Glory of God
- but God will continue to love us and be there for us
- We must choose to get up and build our relationship with him.
- After that, watch how God’s faithfulness and goodness overflows
Conclusion

[INTRODUCTION]
- Recap of Sunday’s sermon

All who fear the LORD will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech - Proverbs 8:13

El sentido común y el éxito me pertenecen. La fuerza y la inteligencia son mías - Proverbios 8:14
- Talk about living with roommates.
- Reference roommate etiquette (willing to resolve conflict)
- Ex- Cleaning duties at Del Vista.
- According to article, lack of respect is a reason there is conflict with roommates.
- In order to resolve conflict and be wise with roomates, there must be respect.
TO BE WISE WITH ROOMMATES, IS TO BE RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS
SER SABIOS CON LOS COMPAÑEROS DE CUARTO, ES SER RESPETUOSO CON OTROS
What is respect?
A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something that is drawn out by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Un sentimiento de profunda admiración por alguien o algo que se extrae por sus habilidades, cualidades o logros.
“Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king.” - 1 Peter 2:17
“Respeten a todos y amen a la familia de creyentes. Teman a Dios y respeten al rey.” - 1 Pedro 2:17
- It is important to respect those around us, in order to grow in wisdom
- Treating others, the way we would like to be treated (ref Matt 7:12)
- Sometimes when we cross the line of respect
- Wisdom also is recognizing when we disrespect others or he or she disrespects us
- Sometimes when we cross the line of respect
- What do we do in this case?
TO BE WISE, IS TO FORGIVE OTHERS
SER SABIOS, ES PERDONAR A OTROS
“Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” - Colossians 3:13
“Sean comprensivos con las faltas de los demás y perdonen a todo el que los ofenda. Recuerden que el Señor los perdonó a ustedes, así que ustedes deben perdonar a otros.” - Colosenses 3:13
- Sometimes the people we live with can cause for us to be offended or hurt
- We must remember the word of Jesus and forgive others and forgive ourselves
- Being wise is to remember the words of Jesus, “forgive the transgressions of others”
- The more we choose to forgive our roommates, the wiser we will be.
- Once we forgive ourselves, roommates, others, etc we must then be loving to them to grow in wisdom.
TO BE WISE, IS TO SHOW LOVE TO OTHERS
SER SABIO, ES DEMOSTRAR AMOR A OTROS
“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” - John 13:34
“Así que ahora les doy un nuevo mandamiento: ámense unos a otros. Tal como yo los he amado, ustedes deben amarse unos a otros.” - Juan 13:34
- God commands us to be loving to others
- The more we love others, the better we can grow in wisdom and knowledge.
- Love is an action of service, where we choose to serve and help other.
- Love language = acts of service
- Ex- Jimmy Darts story
- Love your roomates, friends, relatives, etc to grow in wisdom.
- To be wise with our roommates and people around us, we must choose to respect others.
- Wisdom is also the act of forgiving others and forgiving ourselves to grow.
- Be wise and love others unconditionally, just as Jesus loves us.
- “People will tell you you're perfect the way you are, you're not! You are imperfect, and that is okay because the creator of the universe created us that way. If we accept this, we will have grace and grace is a gift. Like the freedom we enjoy in this country, that freedom was paid for by the shedding of someone else’s blood. Don’t ever forget that.”
- Take a moment silently for everyone to pray.
I WILL BE WISE WITH THE PEOPLE AROUND ME BY RESPECTING, FORGIVING, AND LOVING THEM

COMO SER UN PLANIFICADOR SABIO
[INTRODUCTION]
- Tonight, we’re talking about wise planning, specifically how to be wise planners.
- We’re not going to get into the specifics about what a wise plan for your life might be, but we will discuss how to approach the plans we put into motion.
“We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer.” - Proverbs 16:1
“Podemos hacer nuestros propios planes, pero la respuesta correcta viene del Señor.” - Proverbios 16:1
“People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.” - Proverbs 16:2
“La gente puede considerarse pura según su propia opinión, pero el Señor examina sus intenciones.” - Proverbios 16:2
“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” - Proverbs 16:3
“Pon todo lo que hagas en manos del Señor, y tus planes tendrán éxito.” - Proverbios 16:3
- Have you ever heard this little joke?
- Do you ever want to make God laugh? Make plans.
- It’s funny because we’ve all made plans that go wrong.
- We’ve all had expectations go unfulfilled.
- Dreams that stay dreams.
- Promises we’ve seen unkept.
- But, while it might be funny, it is just a joke.
- And God doesn’t actually laugh at us when our plans go wrong.
- In fact, we have an all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present God who actually wants us to make plans.
- So, the problem isn’t that we make plans.
- The problem is that we make plans ON OUR OWN.
- On Sunday, Apostle Bob talked about the normal reactions we have to plans going wrong.
- We experience Confusion.
- We struggle with Frustration.
- And sometimes we are consumed with Anger.
- Plans go wrong because of factors that are UNKNOWN and beyond our control.
- So how can we make plans in a world full of unknowns? First we must
DEBEMOS HUMILLARNOS
- Proverbs says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the beginning of knowledge.
- But it also says in Proverbs 15:33
“El temor de Jehová es enseñanza de sabiduría, y a la honra precede la humildad.” - Proverbios 15:33
- We must understand that before we can even begin to make a plan, we must humble ourselves before the Lord.
- We can’t do it on our own.
- And we weren’t meant to.
- Earlier in the month, brother Ferny talked about King Solomon.
- God told Solomon to ask for anything he wanted, and he responded by asking for wisdom.
- He asked for a discerning heart that could distinguish between right and wrong.
- When he could have asked for anything, this was his humble request.
- A humble request that teaches us that there is no position we could attain that is great enough to remove us from our need for God's wisdom in our plans.
- Philippians 2:8 gives us a picture of the humility of Jesus.
“Mas aún, hallándose en la condición de hombre, se humilló a sí mismo, haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte, y muerte de cruz.” - Filipenses 2:8
- Remember that Jesus humbled Himself for our sake.
- Do our plans have selfish ambition?
- Do they cater to our own vanity?
- Do they consider others as more valuable than ourselves?
- These questions are tests we can use to know if we are truly imitating the humility of Jesus.
ENCOMENDAR NUESTRAS OBRAS A JEHOVÁ
“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” - Proverbs 16:3
“Encomienda a Jehová tus obras y tus pensamientos serán afirmados.” - Proverbios 16:3
- Another way you can look at this is “Take God into partnership and your plans will succeed.”
- On Sunday, Pastor Gloria talked about the women’s retreat that went awry or almost went awry.
- Months of planning and preparation.
- Lots of expectations.
- So much excitement.
- Only for the guest speaker to abandon the event at the last moment.
- Fortunately, Pastor Gloria was partnered with God, and even with all the turmoil, the event STILL happened.
- So did the plan change?
- The details might have, but the outcome was still the same.
- The women were blessed, and God was glorified.
- Isn’t it amazing when God has a plan?
- We can trust that it will come to fruition.
- If He said it, we can believe it!
- Last time I had the privilege to preach we talked about Jericho Praise.
- And we talked about Joshua taking over as leader when Moses died.
- The promise that God made to His people didn’t die with Moses.
- Instead, it was time for Joshua to take over as the leader to take the new generation into the promised land.
- The plan didn’t change.
- The promise was still coming.
- Because it was ordained by God.
- The plan still succeeded.
- Which leads to the final point
SOMÉTETE Y DEJA QUE DIOS TENGA EL CONTROL
- Don’t let the UNKNOWN cause you to freeze.
- Don’t get choked up by the fear of the unknown and allow yourselves to get stuck.
“El corazón del hombre se propone un camino, pero Jehová endereza sus pasos.” - Proverbios 16:9
- Steps. You must take steps.
- And I’m telling myself this too because
- A little bit about me, I like to know everything.
- Some people call me a “know-it-all.”
- And by some people, I mean my wife and my siblings.
- Whenever I hear about something new, the first thing I do is take out my phone and go to google.
- I hear a new word. Google.
- I have a question about history. Google.
- What time does chik-fil-a close? Google.
- I like to research because I want to know the truth.
- But more importantly, I DO NOT LIKE feeling unprepared or unequipped.
- And this strong dislike of the UNKNOWN has made it very difficult for me to trust God in times when I might not be able to see His plan clearly.
- In 1 Samuel 16, God tells Samuel that He has provided a new king for His people.
- And that he must go to Bethlehem and find a man named Jesse (Isaí) because one of his sons will be the new king.
- While there, Jesse brings the wrong son to Samuel once, then twice, and then 5 more times before they finally consider the youngest son, David.
- I imagine Jesse had an idea for who the king should be.
- Maybe the oldest son.
- Or maybe the smartest son.
- Maybe the strongest son.
- Samuel certainly had an idea for which son God would pick to be the king.
“Pero Jehová respondió a Samuel: —No mires a su parecer, ni a lo grande de su estatura, porque yo lo desecho; porque Jehová no mira lo que mira el hombre, pues el hombre mira lo que está delante de sus ojos, pero Jehová mira el corazón.” - 1 Samuel 16:7
- Where is your heart?
- Is it willing to relinquish your own ideas for what should happen?
- Is it willing to be searched for our true motives?
- Is it willing to move forward even when the plan isn’t totally clear?
- Church, if you would permit me this metaphor.
- Imagine it is a time before GPS, we are having dinner at my house and you are invited.
- And imagine the way I give you directions is by just telling you all the steps all at once only one time.
- Once you exit the parking lot turn right.
- Follow the curve right.
- At the stop sign turn left.
- At the next stop sign turn left.
- At the light turn left.
- At the next light turn right.
- At the next light go straight.
- At the next light go straight.
- At the next light go straight.
- At the next light go straight.
- At the next light turn right.
- Before the next light turn right.
- The code to get into the gate is # and the last 4 digits in my phone number.
- Go in and go right and on the left is my building. I’m in the center of the building.
- Make sure to park in an uncovered parking spot.
- See you the Tuesday after next. Bye!
- Now, I just gave you very detailed instructions, but hearing it all at once isn’t very helpful.
- How many of you would actually make it to my apartment?
- Now, imagine I just rode in the car with you and gave you the directions as we went.
- It would be much easier, right?
- That’s exactly what God wants to do!
- Commit your thoughts to God and your plans will succeed!
- Partner with God in your plans.
- Until your plans become His plans.
- The car ride is just the journey of your life, and God gave you your life anyway, so why wouldn’t you want the all-knowing to be riding in the car with you?
- Because in the journey of life, we aren’t just riding back to our own apartments, or going to work, or going to school, or going out to have fun.
- If we want, we’re going to our Father’s house. Because Jesus made a way for us to be with our Abba Father.
- Where He has prepared a place for us. To dwell with Him and to have life everlasting.
- That is a promise.
- And when you humble yourself, commit your actions, and submit to Him.
- When you let God give you the directions, every once in a while, God will take you on little detours you never expected.
- God will tell you, “let’s go left over here - this is the job I have for you”.
- “Let’s go right over here, this is where your wife is”.
- “Let’s take an exit here, there’s a lost little sheep stranded on the side of the road, and I want to pick them up.
- Remember when you were the lost little sheep, and I found you?”
- We were all little lost sheep at one point.
- And God kept us in His mind.
- We were always part of His plan.
- Because His plan is that none should perish.
- And we get to partner with God in His plan. Even if we don’t know all the steps.
- And even better that we don’t, lest we get puffed up with pride and believe that we found our own way in our own strength.
- And if you’re worried that you missed out on God’s plan.
- Jesus said to make a left on Monroe and you didn’t.
- Don’t worry. Jackson is coming up.
- We can recalibrate (recalcitrar). Reassess (revaluar)
- Come back into the plan by the grace of God.
- You haven’t missed it.
- God’s plan is too big.
- Please stand with me as we pray.
- God, thank you for Your grace.
- I’m sorry for all the times that I thought I knew a better way.
- It was just pride that invaded my heart.
- Thank You for Your grace which covers the sins I committed in the iniquity of my prideful heart.
- Thank You for letting me come back into an understanding that You are God and I am not.
- I want to partner with You.
- For You to direct my steps as I make plans that align with Your will.
- It’s not enough for me to just follow someone who is partnered with You.
- I want to be partnered with You as well.
- In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen
